Mother's Cake House opened its doors in Balibago back in the 1960s, when it was little more than a family kitchen selling cakes and pastries to neighbors. There was no grand plan — just a belief that a good sansrival or a properly made egg pie was worth doing right, every single time.
Word spread the way it does in a neighborhood: one pasalubong box at a time.
Today, Mother's Cake House still sits behind its cheerful white picket fence on Marlim Avenue — part pastry counter, part small dining room. The chillers are stocked with cakes, the glass shelves with pastries boxed and ready for take-out, and a handful of tables for anyone who wants to eat in.
It's the sister establishment to Angeles Fried Chicken, but the bakeshop has always had its own loyal following — regulars who come as much for the baked mac and palabok as for the cake.
Sansrival, egg pie, and banana cake are still made the way they were decades ago — no shortcuts.
